Augur ReporterSettlementResolutionExpiry

A dispute is a formal challenge to a prediction market's proposed outcome before final settlement.

Why it matters on AGON

Every market on AGON, whether on a /world-cup/teams/brazil match or the price of ETH, functions as a prediction market. The integrity of each market's resolution is critical. A dispute mechanism is the final line of defense, ensuring outcomes are accurate and protecting user capital from incorrect data or oracle errors. Without a robust dispute process, market trust erodes.

AGON currently uses a centralized admin oracle for swift and reliable resolution. This minimizes ambiguity and provides a clear point of contact. However, the long-term roadmap includes a transition to the Oracl3 Protocol's decentralized OracleDAO. In that system, disputes will be handled on-chain by bonded reporters, aligning incentives with accuracy and removing single points of failure.

How to apply

A short dispute period follows a market's initial proposed resolution. If you believe a market at /markets has resolved incorrectly—for example, if an official score was reported wrong—you must provide verifiable, public evidence to support your claim. Conclusive proof from a reputable source, not subjective opinion or a single bad data point, is required to overturn the initial result.

On the current platform, this process is managed directly by the AGON team via support channels. In future decentralized systems like Polymarket or our planned OracleDAO, disputing is more programmatic. It requires staking collateral. This stake is forfeited if the dispute is rejected, preventing spam and ensuring only legitimate challenges are raised. A successful dispute corrects the market outcome for all participants and rewards the disputer.
