Eigenlayer is a protocol on Ethereum that introduces restaking, a mechanism allowing staked ETH to secure other networks and services beyond Ethereum itself. It creates a marketplace for decentralized trust, where stakers can opt-in to validate new protocols in exchange for additional rewards.

Why it matters on AGON

AGON operates on Base, an Ethereum Layer-2. The security of every transaction, bet, and market resolution on /markets ultimately inherits from Ethereum's mainnet consensus. Eigenlayer strengthens this foundation by increasing the economic security and capital efficiency of Ethereum.

A more robust and secure mainnet creates a more reliable environment for L2s like Base. While you don't interact with Eigenlayer directly on AGON, its role in hardening the underlying chain provides systemic stability for the entire ecosystem where your USDC collateral and wagers are processed. Stronger base layer, stronger AGON.

How to apply

Practitioners typically engage with Eigenlayer through two main paths: native restaking or liquid restaking. Native restaking is for advanced operators who run their own validator nodes and opt-in to validate additional services, known as Actively Validated Services (AVSs).

For most users, liquid restaking is the more accessible route. This involves depositing ETH or a Liquid Staking Token (LST) into a liquid restaking protocol, which then handles the complex validation operations. In return, you receive a Liquid Restaking Token (LRT). This token represents your underlying staked position but remains liquid for use elsewhere in DeFi, compounding potential yield. The trade-off is exposure to additional layers of smart contract and slashing risk.
