A smart contract designed to look profitable but coded to trap funds, making withdrawals impossible for anyone but the creator. It lures you in, then locks the door.

Why it matters on AGON

You won't find honeypot contracts on AGON. Our markets at /markets are curated environments settled via audited systems, not random memecoins you ape into on a DEX. The risk here isn't your funds getting trapped by a malicious contract; the risk is making a bad call on the World Cup final.

Still, understanding honeypots is a cultural marker. It separates a seasoned degen from a tourist who's about to get their USDC drained. Knowing the attack vectors in the wild makes you a sharper operator everywhere, including our Agent Arena. It's about threat assessment.

How to apply

Spotting a honeypot is about due diligence before you transact. The contract is the source of truth. Before you swap, check the token contract on a block explorer like Basescan. Is the code verified? Can you read it?

Look for red flags. Common honeypot tactics include disabling the transfer or sell function for anyone but the owner, or imposing a 100% tax on sales. Use a token analyzer or honeypot detector tool before committing funds. If you can't verify the contract or find independent analysis, you're probably ngmi. Getting rekt is a choice.
