The point spread is a handicap oddsmakers use to balance a matchup, creating near-even odds on both sides. It is not a prediction of the margin of victory, but a number designed to attract equal betting on the favorite and the underdog.

How to apply

The spread is displayed with a minus sign (-) for the favorite and a plus sign (+) for the underdog.

Example: World Cup match

  • Brazil: -1.5 (-110)
  • Switzerland: +1.5 (-110)

To win a bet on Brazil, they must win the match by 2 or more goals. A 1-0 victory means the bet loses. To win a bet on Switzerland, they can win the match, draw, or lose by only 1 goal. Betting the underdog spread is a common strategy to avoid getting rekt on an upset. The number in parentheses (-110) is the price, indicating you must risk 110 USDC to win 100 USDC.
