A market resolution method where payouts scale linearly between a defined minimum and maximum value. Unlike a binary (Yes/No) market, a scalar market resolves to any number within its designated range.
Scalar resolution powers AGON's most nuanced markets. It lets you trade outcomes that are not simple win/loss scenarios. Think "Total goals in the World Cup Final" (range 0-7) or "Max Verstappen's fastest lap time" (range 1:18.000-1:21.000). Your payout is proportional to the final, verified number.
This model provides a more granular way to express a market view and manage risk. All scalar markets on AGON settle in USDC on Base. Resolution data is currently sourced via our admin oracle, with a planned transition to a decentralized OracleDAO to secure the process further. You can find these markets under the 'Specials' tab for major events at /markets.
The payout calculation is direct. Each share you own pays out based on where the final result lands within the predefined range.
Formula: Payout per Share = (Resolution Value - Lower Bound) / (Upper Bound - Lower Bound)
Consider a market on "Points scored by LeBron James" with a range of 20 (Lower Bound) to 40 (Upper Bound).
The payout per share is (35 - 20) / (40 - 20) = 15 / 20 = $0.75. Your profit is $0.15 per share. Instead of getting rekt because he scored 29 on an "Over 29.5" bet, your payout reflects how right you were.
